We are guilty of asking Google how to get rid of a headache. This is because most, if not all of us, will experience headaches at some point during our lives.

For some, they come and go. They are mild and generally not too inconvenient. For others, they are persistent and get in the way of typical daily activities. An occasional headache may be tolerable, but if you have them all the time, you want a permanent solution that doesn’t involve over-the-counter medications.

5 ways to reduce your headache

For your all-natural solution to get rid of a headache, here is a list of remedies:

Ginger Root

The most common way to see the effects of this is to steep ginger root and use it as a tea. This can provide you with relief from a headache as it’s a warm liquid, which almost always helps. The ginger will help by reducing inflammation that causes pressure on your head and causing the aching. You can also apply the ginger paste directly to your forehead if you need faster relief.

This tea should be enjoyed slowly. Peppermint essential oil can be inhaled to relieve the pressure from a headache as well. Alternatively, you can mix the oil with a carrier oil (almond, coconut, olive) and apply the mixture directly to your skin. Ideally, your temples or the back of your neck.

Lavender Essential Oil

Sweeping the medical field with their ability to relieve almost any ailment, essential oils are a great way to get rid of a headache. One of the best essential oils for headaches is Lavender. This oil is ideal because inhaling the scent will help relieve tension and stress in your body.

You can add this oil to a diffuser or you can inhale from the bottle. You can also boil a pot of water, add a few drops and inhale the steam rising from the pot. This is a common alternative for those who do not have a diffuser.

Compresses

There’s no better way to relieve the symptoms of a headache. You may want to alternate between a warm compress and a cold compress. Some people find the warmth helps and others find the cold helps. Most people alternate between the two for the maximum relief.

You’ll have to see which works the best for you. Be careful that you’re not applying too hot or cold of a solution. You may further tense your muscles.
